Youths insist on guber slot for Okigwe

OWERRI—As preparations for the 2015 general
elections gather momentum, a youth
organisation in Imo State, Okigwe Youth
Assembly, OYA, has challenged Okigwe zone to
legitimately seek to complete its truncated
tenure at Government House, Owerri.
OYA explained that its demand was in line
with the spirit and dictate of established Imo
Charter of Equity, after which Owerri zone will
take over.
The OYA President, Dr. Onumuo Wilson, who
made the position of the youths known to
newsmen, however, reasoned that although the
group was aware that what it was advocating
lacked constitutional basis, it had become
politically expedient for the people of the
zone  who were opposed to sacrificing
competence and merit on the altar of
mediocrity.
The youth leader blamed prominent indigenes
of the zone who had held positions, and were
still holding positions of authority at the
various levels of government, for the poor
development of the zone.
He said: “We, as a distinct group of people,
should really have no need to cry for
marginalisation going by the fact that we have
actually been opportuned to hold key
positions of leadership at the state and
national levels.”
He argued that while the zone might not heap
the blame of its woes, especially between
2007 and 2011, on individuals, the people of
the zone should see the forthcoming 2015
election as an opportunity to review crucial
issues affecting the zone.
